Got a Pet?
The following is an excerpt from The Apartment Life.com Moving Guide:
Pets: Narrow your search to properties that allow pets. Don’t assume that the landlord won’t find out you have a pet. Many landlords have added penalty clauses with steep fines when a pet is discovered to be living on the premises.
A responsible pet owner will offer/agree to pay an additional pet deposit and sign a pet agreement with the Landlord. To demonstrate to the potential landlord your knowledge and practice of responsible pet ownership, you should create a packet with your pet’s information.
For more info on this topic, visit: The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) at www.rentwithpets.org. Your packet may include:
• A pet resume (picture optional) • Proof of spay/neuter surgery • Records of up-to-date vaccinations • Obedience school diplomas • Indications of regular veterinary visits • Written references from landlords, trainers, and veterinarian
